Don't look now, but Games is bringing back New Wave

The new "That You Can Play" EP from Games is nothing short of a revelation. The smooth synth rhythms are reminiscent of the 1980s to be sure, but the EP takes and streamlines ideas expressed more recently in efforts by groups like M83. The second track in particular is like a cut from Saturdays = Youth, except without the lackluster vocals...

Shadows In Bloom borrows sonic textures from an almost French house sensibility, like a smoothed out and more slow dance friendly version of Danger. This is not to suggest that the beats or overall experience is any less impactful than the bug suit-wearing dj's aggressive delivery (complete in the live show with edited scenes from Arnold in Predator as a graphic accompaniment). Rather the almost spooky vibes adds a different filter, a little smoother and glossier. Check it out, new wave dance music for the 21st century.
